Louisiana football signee D’Wayne’ Winfield was named the Warrick Dunn Award winner as the 2022 Sportsline Player of the Year by WAFB-TV in Baton Rouge.
The Lutcher, Louisiana native added to his trophy case after already being named the Class 4A Offensive Player of the Year by the LSWA and Player of the Year by the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club.
His senior season was highlighted by 4,657 yards and 70 touchdowns accounted for. He threw for 2,180 yards and 32 touchdowns while rushing for 2,477 yards and 38 touchdowns.
The dual-threat quarterback led the Bulldogs to their ninth LHSAA title as he threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 130 yards and another touchdown against North DeSoto in the Superdome.
Louisiana has had good fortune with Lutcher quarterbacks, as Cajun standout Blaine Gauthier, who won the inaugural Warrick Dunn Award, was a Lutcher Bulldog.
