After about a 45-minute delay in the top of the first of game one, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (17-6, 4-1 Sun Belt) wasted no time setting the tone on Saturday afternoon, sweeping the doubleheader against Appalachian State (12-13, 2-3 Sun Belt).
Game One:
The Cajuns got on the board in the bottom half when Kara Gremillion hit a bases-loaded RBI single into shallow right field to make it 1-0. Later in the inning, the Mountaineers nearly had a triple play if not for Brittany Rodriguez quickly getting back to third base after the line drive was caught by the shortstop.
They were still able to put together three more runs in the first, capped off by an RBI single from Kynadi Tipler to make it 4-0.
Kara was able to get her first home run of the season just over the left field wall to make it 5-0.
Summer Ellyson improved to 7-3 on the year allowing no hits, walked one, and struck out five in five innings of work.
Game Two:
Louisiana started off the second game of the twinbill much like the first one, loading the bases with no outs. However, they were only able to get one run across when Kynadi Tipler hit a sac fly out to right field to score Brittany Rodriguez.
Alissa Dalton continued to have a great day in the second inning, hitting an RBI single out to centerfield to extend the Cajuns lead to 2-0.
Things quickly got out of hand in the third with a five-run inning capped off by a three-run blast out to right field courtesy of Dalton. Kailyn Watts put the final nail in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double out to right center.
Casey Dixon improved to 5-1 on the season throwing five shutout innings. She only allowed three hits, walked three and struck out four in five innings of work.
The Cajuns will look to sweep the series on Sunday with first pitch set for 11 am.
