After a very strong first quarter for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (10-10, 5-3 Sun Belt), the Troy Trojans (9-10, 4-4 Sun Belt) were able to play their brand of basketball and came away with a 62-55 win on Saturday evening.
The Cajuns started out slow with neither team getting a bucket until Jasmine Thomas hit a jumper with 7:54 left in the first. They were able to hold the lead throughout the quarter and came out of it with a 10-point lead after one quarter of play.
The Trojans started to take control in the second quarter and stifled the Cajuns offense holding them to five points. That was enough to make it a two-point ballgame at the break with the Cajuns holding onto a slim lead.
Troy began to pull away late in the third quarter with a 6-2 run to end the third quarter up by four. The Cajuns went back and forth with the Trojans in the final five minutes, but couldn’t build a gap between the two teams. That was more than enough for Troy to get a seven-point win over the Cajuns.
Louisiana will return to action on February 3rd when they hit the road to take on the UL Monroe Warhawks (4-16, 1-8 Sun Belt) with tipoff set for 12 pm.
