After a stellar 2019, Summer Ellyson received a much-deserved honor, being named to the 2019 National Fast-Pitch Coaches Association Division I All-America team on Wednesday.
Ellyson earned her spot in the elite group as an NFCA Third Team All-American, receiving her first career All-American accolade in the process. She was one of only 54 total student-athletes across the entire Division I ranks to achieve the honor.
“Summer truly had an ‘All-American’ season, and her performance was far beyond deserving of being rewarded at the highest level,” Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco said in a statement released by the university. “Myself and our entire coaching staff are elated to see her acknowledged for giving our program and University one of the most dominant seasons ever.”
Ellyson now becomes the 54th Cajun in program history to be named to an All-American list. This comes after an outstanding season that saw her lead the nation in wins with a 39-6 record and entered the postseason as one of only five pitchers with a sub-1.00 ERA.
