The LSU Tigers baseball team officially began their 2025 season with spring practices beginning on Friday in Alex Box Stadium.
The team is ranked 3rd in the D1Baseball preseason poll, and features plenty of highly rated prospects. Jay Johnson enters his fourth year in charge of the program, having won a College World Series Title already in his tenure.
The skipper spoke about his team after their first practice. “Emphasizing fundamentals, being highly competitive, valuing winning, and honoring what LSU Baseball been about long before I got here, are the staples of our program,” Johnson explained. “Having character is also very important, because character influences the ability to make the right decisions as a young man. We have a lot of new guys who will be doing things this season for the first time, and they need the mental toughness to be locked into the task at hand. The players’ ability to respond to adversity with toughness, and focus on what’s relevant, will be critical. They’ve done a very good job since the start of the fall semester, they’ve been very coachable, and we’re very excited to get into the next three weeks.”
The Tigers have a mix of returning players and additions via high school recruiting and the transfer portal. In total, they added 26 new players. 12 of them are NCAA Division I transfers, four are JUCO players, and 10 are high school freshmen.
LSU begins their season on Friday, February 14th at 2:00 PM when they welcome Purdue-Fort Wayne into Alex Box Stadium. You can listen to that and all the Tigers’ games on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles.
