LSU’s offense wasn’t nearly as dominant on Sunday as it was in game two of the doubleheader, but at the end of the day, it didn’t need to be as the Tigers rolled to an easy 7-2 win to start conference play off with a 3-0 record.
How It Happened:
Neither team could get anything going early on in Sunday’s matchup and it took an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth from Saul Garza to put LSU on the board. However, the Wildcats responded with a sac bunt in the fifth by Marshall Gei to get Coltyn Kessler across home plate and tie things up.
The Tigers fired back in a big way with a three-run inning highlighted by a two-run single to left field by Chris Reid. Antoine Duplantis got the lone extra-base hit of the day for LSU in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run triple out to right field that put the Tigers up 7-1 and seemingly put the game out of reach.
Big Number: 11
The Tigers pitching staff looked solid in a win on Sunday, striking out a total of 11 batters. It’s made all the more impressive when you see that Eric Walker accounted for five of those in four and a third.
Player of trhe Game: Chris Reid
The professional hitter made the most of his opportunities with that two-run single in the fifth being crucial.
