LSU, off of another fantastic performance by Leonard Fournette, hangs on to defeat Syracuse by the score of 34-24.
Fournette got things for LSU late in the first quarter, first breaking off a 48-yard run and running it in for 14-yards for the score two plays later.
Syracuse finally got on the board midway through the second quarter when Cole Murphy booted a 43-yarder to cut away at LSU’s lead. The Orange tried to come within one point, but the field goal attempt hit the crossbar, keeping the score at 7-3 at the end of the first half.
LSU extended their lead over Syracuse with a little help from the special teams early on in the second half. Trent Domingue hit a 21-yarder low, but still went through the uprights. Two minutes later, Tre’Davious White took it to the house off of a 69 yard punt return.
But the Orange weren’t about to go away that easily. QB Zack Mahoney connected with Brisly Estime for 40-yards to come within one touchdown.
But Fournette kept Syracuse at bay, this time getting off a 62-yard run to extend their lead to 24-10.
Mahoney found success through the air once again with a pass to Ben Lewis to get within one touchdown again. Brandon Harris responded with a touchdown pass of his own to Malachi Dupre. Trent Domingue put the nail in the coffin late in the game with a 37-yarder going through the uprights.
The LSU Tigers (3-0, 2-0 SEC) will now take on the Eastern Michigan (1-2) on October 3rd with kickoff set for 6:00 pm.
