LSU Hangs on to Take Down Southeastern Louisiana

Posted by clintdomingue on March 4, 2018 in Blogs, Latest News

After Wednesday’s matchup between LSU (8-4) and Southeastern Louisiana (7-5), it seemed like the Tigers weekend finale was going to be more interesting than the previous two matchups. It more than lived up to the hype and LSU was able to come away with a 4-2 victory over the Lions.

Antoine Duplantis got things going for the Tigers in the bottom of the first with a two-out solo home run out to right field.

LSU kept on rolling in the bottom of the third with another solo shot, this time from Beau Jordan. Later in the inning, Daniel Cabrera made it 3-0 with an RBI double out to left field.

After a Duplantis sacrifice fly, the Lions made it interesting in the seventh inning with a two-run shot out to right field from Kyle Schimpf. It wasn’t enough though as the bullpen was able to shut out Southeastern Louisiana in the final two innings.

Ma’Khail Hilliard improved to 3-0 on the year, throwing four shutout innings. Hilliard struck out four, walked one batter, and allowed only one hit on the afternoon. Austin Bain got his first save of the season facing the minimum in the ninth with one strikeout to end the ballgame.

The Tigers will return to action on Wednesday when they take on the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (4-7) with first pitch set for 6 pm.
