It got a little scary for the LSU Tigers (8-1) on Tuesday night, but their best hitter was able to get them over the top against Nicholls (4-4).
After four innings with not a lot of hitting, the Colonels got on the board in the top of the fifth with a Troy Cahill sacrifice hit to send Justin Holt home safely. Later in the inning, Chet Neihaus would make it 2-0 with an RBI single to center field.
LSU would respond in the bottom of the fifth with a sac fly from Kramer Robertson sending home Beau Jordan.
Lafayette native Antoine Duplantis tied things up in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single to send Coomes home.
And much like the other games this season, Greg Deichmann came through and hit what would be the game winner in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single through the left side.
Todd Peterson got his first win as an LSU Tiger in relief not allowing a hit in his one inning of work. Hunter Newman got his second save of the season
The Tigers will now leave the friendly confines of Alex Box Stadium and go to Minute Maid Park to participate in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic. They’ll start things off on Friday when they take on TCU (7-1) with first pitch slated for 7 pm.
