The LSU Tigers (2-2) had a rough start to the ballgame with Cam Sanders allowing two earned runs off of two hits before recording a single out against the UNO Privateers (2-3). However, the Tigers bats came alive late and were able to come away with a 14-6 victory on Wednesday night.
After the rough start in the top of the first, Antoine Duplantis responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run triple out to right field to quickly close the gap. Hunter Feduccia followed right up with an RBI single to left field to even things up at three runs.
Austin Bain, typically used as a pitcher was a designated hitter and was able to give the Tigers the lead in the bottom of the second. However, Owen Magee tied it back up in the third with a solo shot out to left field. Beau Bratton gave UNO the lead in the fifth with a groundout to Hal Hughes that got Jacob McFadden home safely.
The Tigers really started to roll offensively in the sixth with a four-run inning highlighted by Austin Bain hitting an RBI double out to right center. Daniel Cabrera officially put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single, capping off another four-run inning.
Ma’Khail Hilliard got his first win of the season, walking one and striking out one in his one inning.
LSU will stay inside Alex Box Stadium this weekend when they host the Texas Longhorns (2-1) for a three-game set with first pitch set for 7 pm.
