LSU’s (28-20, 12-12 SEC) offense carried that momentum on Sunday afternoon and were able to hang on to take the rubber match from Arkansas (33-15, 14-10 SEC) by the score of 7-5.
How It Happened
LSU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out RBI double courtesy of Hunter Feduccia. However, Heston Kjerstad evened things up in the fifth with a bomb out to right field.
The Tigers didn’t give up though, putting together a big four run inning in the bottom of the fifth highlighted by a double by Austin Bain to make it 5-1. Hal Hughes kept things moving forward in the sixth with an RBI single out to center field, scoring Brandt Broussard.
However, the Razorbacks rallied back in the seventh with a four-run inning jumpstarted by a two-run single from Kjerstad to make it a one-run ballgame. Zach Watson finally closed the door in the seventh with an RBI single out to left field.
AJ Labas improved to 6-1 on the season allowing one run off of four hits and struck out three in six innings of work. Matthew Beck recorded his first save of the season, throwing three shutout innings in the process.
Big Number: 13
The number 13 is usually unlucky, but the Tigers offense had some good vibes at the plate, going 13-for-36 (.361) on the afternoon.
Player of the Game: AJ Labas
For much of the ballgame on Sunday, it was a true pitcher’s duel and AJ Labas was a big reason for that, going six innings and allowing only one run off of four hits. The tinkering of Paul Mainieri continues to pay off.
