For the first time since 2004, the LSU Tigers beat Alabama (10-8, 1-5 SEC) inside of the Coleman Coliseum 72-70.
The Tigers and the Tide went back and forth throughout the first half, but it was a 10-2 run by Alabama that gave them a 41-36 lead at the half.
The Crimson Tide kept control of the lead up until the final minutes of the game when they went 1 for 5 from the field to end the game. It was the heroics of Tim Quarterman who gave the Tigers a 70-69 lead with 1:15 left and hit the game-winner with an incredible putback to give his team the lead with 33 seconds left on the clock.
Ben Simmons led the Tigers with 23 points, eight boards, five assists, and one steal on the afternoon. Keith Hornsby had an efficient game with 12 points, going 5-6 from the field and 2-3 from the arc. The senior guard also had two boards.
Retin Obasohan led the Tide with 20 points, 10 boards, and two steals on the afternoon.
The Tigers (12-7, 5-2 SEC) will return to the PMAC on Tuesday night to take on the Georgia Bulldogs (10-6, 3-3 SEC) with tipoff scheduled for 8 pm.
