LSU (12-6) was able to avenge their loss last season against South Alabama (9-8) thanks to a solid offensive output from the Tigers on Wednesday night.
Hunter Feduccia got things going for LSU in the bottom of the first when he hit a two-run single that scored Zach Watson and Brandt Broussard. Hal Hughes made it 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when he hit a single up the middle to score Bryce Jordan.
The Tigers really poured it on in the fifth when they put together four runs, capping it off with a two-run single from Watson to make it 7-0.
The Jags finally got on the board in the seventh when Dylan Hardy was walked with the bases loaded. It looked like South Alabama started to turn things around though when they put together three runs capped off by an RBI single by Michael Sandle to make it 9-4. However, they were unable to get anything going in the ninth.
AJ Labas got his first collegiate win throwing six shutout innings, allowing only five hits and struck out five on the evening.
LSU will open up SEC play with a three-game set against Mizzou (14-3) with first pitch for game one set for 6:30 pm.
