LSU’s Hoover Strikes Again, Cajuns Season Ends

Posted by clintdomingue on May 22, 2017 in Latest News

Lamson Park

The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns looked to be in control in the top of the third. Two on and no outs held potential for a big inning against LSU. That’s when Carley Hoover came in and shut down the Cajuns offense for the second time in less than 24 hours to punch their ticket to the Super Regionals.

The Cajuns got on the board early with DJ Sanders hitting an RBI double off the wall in the first. LSU responded in the bottom of the third when Amber Serret tied things up off a fielding error by Sanders. Emily Griggs got the Tigers out in front later in the inning with an RBI single.

A big in-state game like this didn’t end without some controversy with Sydney Springfield hitting a two-run blast out to left field in the bottom of the fourth. It was ruled a home run, but according to replays on the broadcast, it seemed to go foul. The original call stood and gave the Tigers a three run lead.

Griggs put the final nail in later in the inning with another RBI single.

Hoover improved to 14-6 on the season allowing four hits, walked one, and struck out three in five innings of relief work.

Stewart dropped her fifth decision of the season allowing five runs, three of them earned off of seven hits in three and a third innings of work.

The LSU Tigers will now head over to Tallahassee to take on Florida State in a best-of-three series starting on Friday with first pitch currently to be determined.
