After a rough opening weekend for LSU baseball, some bad news came on Tuesday afternoon with Josh Smith undergoing an MRI and revealing that he has a stress reaction in his vertebrae.
The injury will require him to be inactive for at least four weeks in which he is not to perform any athletic activity until it’s clear that the stress reaction has healed.
The sophomore shortstop hit for .222 over the weekend against Notre Dame, including the game-winning three-run home run in the season opener. He will be replaced by freshman Hal Hughes.
LSU returns to action on Wednesday against the UNO Privateers with first pitch set for 6:30 pm.
Extra Bases
Feduccia Ready to Go: After missing opening weekend, Hunter Feduccia will be behind the dish on Wednesday against the UNO Privateers. According to Paul Mainieri, getting him back from injury is huge considering what happened with Josh Smith.
Bryce Jordan started in place of the LSU-E product against Notre Dame and the Irish took advantage of the mismatch, with 10 out of the 11 base runners successfully stealing a base. Jordan will move back to first base on Wednesday.
