It seemed like from the first inning that LSU had given everything they had in the win against Northwestern State just to get one more chance against Oregon State. The Beavers weren’t about to be denied on Sunday night and no dam could stop their offense from coming unglued, advancing to the Super Regionals with a 12-0 win.
How It Happened
Steven Kwan led things off for Oregon State and was able to win a nine-pitch at bat with a solo shot out to right field. The Beavers got two more runs across before the first inning ended with Michael Gretler hitting an RBI single and Jack Anderson getting plunked with the bases loaded.
From that point, things went from bad to worse with LSU in the second with a bases-loaded walk and Kyle Nobach hitting one to the shortstop, Grenier home safely.
Grenier really started to seal the deal with a solo shot in the third to make it 6-0. The door was officially shut though in the sixth when Nobach hit a two-run double off the wall in left center.
Devin Fontenot took the loss, ending his season at 3-1 allowing five runs, walked three, and struck out two in only one inning of work
Big Number: 54
The tone for the ballgame was clearly set in the first inning with Fontenot throwing 54 pitches in the first inning. That kind of performance put Paul Mainieri up against a proverbial wall with the limited amount of pitching he had available.
Player of the Game: Kyle Nobach
What a performance from the Beavers DH, going three of four with four RBIs on the evening. You can’t ask for much more from a player like him.
