New Orleans Saints cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry has been named NFC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
The honor comes after McKinstry secured his first career interception on a day where he had two of them against the New York Giants in a 26-14 Saints win.
McKinstry, a second-year player from Alabama, has transitioned into a starting role as an outside corner back after playing multiple different positions as a rookie.
He made a big impact on Sunday, securing four tackles and three passes defended to go along with the two picks.
For the season, McKinstry ranks sixth on the team with 20 tackles and now has the team lead with his two interceptions.
The Saints (1-4) will be back inside the Caesars Superdome to host the New England Patriots (3-2) on Sunday, October 12th at noon.
