After a pair of tough losses in the middle of the week to Tulane and Houston, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (12-8. 3-1 Sun Belt) needed to start the road trip to Troy, Alabama off on the right foot.
The Trojans (12-9, 2-2 Sun Belt) didn’t make it easy as they responded the right way after the Cajuns put up four runs in the top of the third with four of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie things up. Troy would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from Tyler Davis.
However, the Cajuns were able to rally back with an RBI single from Tremaine Spears to tie it back up in the eighth.
This left the Cajuns in a similar position that they were in on Sunday against Appalachian State. in the top of the ninth with two outs, Handsome Monica comes to the plate. With a 2-0 count he hits one over to right center field that gets Kennon Fontenot home safely to take a 6-5 lead.
Wyatt Marks got his first win of the season in relief allowing one hit in three shutout innings. Dylan Moore got the save, his fifth of the season, also allowing one hit in his one inning of work.
The Cajuns will look to clinch the weekend series tomorrow with first pitch set for 1 pm.
