Tuesday saw several new rules be approved at the NFL spring meeting. The biggest one is to reduce the length of the overtime period in the preseason and regular season from 15 to 10 minutes.
Here are all the new changes that have been approved by the league and what you need to know about them.
Overtime Change
The Change: The length of overtime changed to 10 minutes.
Reasoning: This change is seen to be a nod toward player safety and to help teams that could be playing an overtime game on a short week.
Roster Cut-down Change
The Change: The number of roster cut-downs has been reduced from two to only one.
Reasoning: This gives some of these undrafted free agents a better chance of making the final roster because they can stay on the roster for a little longer.
Injured Reserve Change
The Change: The number of players to return to active roster has increased from one to two players.
Relaxed Celebration Rules
The Change: Group celebrations, using the football as a prop, and going to the ground to celebrate is now allowed.
Reasoning: It’s a step in the right direction toward making the NFL fun again. Twerking is still not allowed, which may not be enough for Antonio Brown.
