For the second time on the young season, LSU’s Friday night ace Paul Skenes has been named the SEC Pitcher of the Week by the league office.
Skenes improved to 3-0 on the season, defeating Butler in a six-inning performance where he only allowed one hit, no runs or hits, and had a career-high 13 strikeouts on 80 pitches.
Skenes’ only hit was a two-out single in the first inning, then he retired the next 16 Bulldogs to come to the plate to complete his day. His 13 strikeouts were the most from an LSU pitcher since March 2, 2018, when Zack Hess had 13 against Toledo.
Skenes has a 0.50 ERA so far this year in 18 innings of work, only allowing one run and six hits with 36 strikeouts, with opponents batting .100 against him.
This is Skenes’ second Pitcher of the Week award, with the first coming in the opening weekend on February 20.
