The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns (15-16) had a pretty good Saturday night on the mound, with both pitchers throwing a career high in strikeouts. That performance by the pitching staff was good enough to give them a 4-2 win on a chilly Saturday night against UT Arlington (15-18).
How It Happened
The Cajuns struck first with an RBI single through the left side by Hunter Kasuls to get Hayden Cantrelle across home plate. The Mavericks were able to tie things up in the third when David Renning mashed one into the pine trees in left field, knocking off a branch in the process.
Tyler Stover pushed the Cajuns out in front with an RBI single to right center field. However, UT Arlington responded in the top of the sixth, tying things up once again with an RBI single by Christian Hollie.
It didn’t last long though as the Cajuns broke the tie in the bottom frame with Gavin Bourgeois getting across home plate after Kasuls was caught stealing. Kole McKinnon put the final run across with an unconventional sac bunt to get Zach LaFleur across home plate.
Austin Perrin improved to 2-4 on the season, allowing one hit in three and two-thirds of an inning of relief work.
Big Number: 13
The number 13 was far from unlucky for the Ragin Cajuns on Saturday night. The combination of Jack Burk and Austin Perrin combined for 13 strikeouts on the evening with both putting up career high numbers on the evening.
Player of the Game: Austin Perrin
The freshman came in with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth and came up clutch, striking out the first batter he faced, followed by a fielder’s choice by David Renning to get out of the bases loaded jam. From there, Perrin was phenomenal, striking out six, a career high.
