The New Orleans Saints defense knows which quarterback to prepare for on Sunday.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson announced Jalen Hurts will start at quarterback against the Saints this week.
Hurts will take over for Carson Wentz. Wentz has started in all 12 games for the Eagles this season. Philadelphia is 3-8-1 overall.
Pederson explained the reason for the quarterback switch on the Eagles Insider Podcast.
“We’re not where we want to be as an offense. I looked at the whole thing and decided that for this week to look for that spark again to try to get the team over the hump, to try to get everybody playing better,” Pederson said.
Hurts replaced Wentz in the Eagles’ 30-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers. He threw for 109 yards and completed five passes on 12 attempts. Hurts recorded one passing touchdown and one interception in the loss.
Wentz has thrown 16 passing touchdowns and 15 interceptions through 12 games. He has also recorded 2,650 passing yards while completing 57.4 percent of his passes.
Hurts was selected with the 53rd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Eagles signed Wentz to a four-year, $128 million contract extension in 2019.
The Saints defense ranks fourth in the NFL in points allowed. New Orleans allows 20.1 points per game to their opponents.
