The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns weren’t great from the charity stripe on Saturday afternoon. That is until it counted the most as they were able to hang on to take down the UNO Privateers 76-71.
The Cajuns got things started on the right note going on an 11-4 run in the opening seven minutes. Things did get a little more dicey as the half progressed with the Privateers bouncing back and getting it within three points with about ten minutes remaining in the first half. It would continue to be a back-and-forth contest and the Cajuns would head into the locker room with a 34-31 lead after a late dunk from Scott Plaisance.
The Privateers would come out to start the second half like a ball of fire and would get the lead back for the first time since early on in the contest with 16 minutes left in regulation. However, the Cajuns would quickly get the lead back with a three-pointer from Jay Wright. The momentum swung once again to UNO with a 15-4 run to make it 65-59 with 5:19 left.
The Cajuns were able to get the lead back behind some nice threes from Wright and clutch shooting from behind the stripe in the final moments to come away with a nice win in front of the Cajun faithful who made the trip to the Lakefront Arena.
The Cajuns (9-3) will return to the Cajundome on the 20th when they take on Pepperdine (4-6) with tip off set for 7 pm.
