The Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were just snakebit on Tuesday night, falling short in a rare midweek non-conference contest against in-state rival UL Monroe.
How It Happened:
The Cajuns got out in front in the bottom of the third with Carson Roccaforte drilling an RBI single that scored Josh Cofield. However, Ben Fitzgerald tried to make it a 2-0 lead off the single and was thrown out at the plate.
The Warhawks responded in the top of the fifth after a Logan Wurm sac bunt resulting in a throwing error that got Grant Schulz across home plate. After Schulz scored on a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead, Mason Holt blew things wide open with a two-run single out in left field.
Louisiana started to rally in the bottom of the sixth with a well-hit RBI single by Brett Borgogno. Later in the inning, Cofield scratched two runs across to tie things up a four runs apiece. Drake Osborn gave the vermilion and white a 5-4 lead after that with an RBI single that went right up the middle.
UL Monroe quickly tied things up with Trace Henry scoring on a passed ball in the top of the seventh and Holt blasted a two-run home run to secure a 7-6 victory for the Warhawks.
CJ Willis got the Cajuns within one, scoring off of a wild pitch but couldn’t seal the deal.
Big Number: 11
The Cajuns offense looked like they were clicking on all cylinders, but just couldn’t cash in stranding 11 runners.
Player of the Game: Josh Cofield
The Cajuns were aided by a good performance from Cofield, who went two-for-three and two RBIs. The sophomore was definitely a bright spot for a team that’s needed on.
