The University of Louisiana women’s basketball team started slow in their return to the Cajundome, but their offense picked up as the game progressed to earn their second home win of the early season.

How it Happened:

McNeese State jumped out to a 17-13 lead after the first quarter behind a strong percentage from the field. The Cowgirls shot 8-of-14 from the field in the first frame, while UL only converted on five of their 16 field goal attempts.

In the second quarter, UL went on a stretch where they made six of eight field goals. They took the lead back by outscoring McNeese 16-8 before a timeout was called with 4:24 left in the half. After the timeout, UL turned the ball over four times. Despite the turnovers, the Ragin’ Cajuns regained the lead going into halftime as they led 33-30.

The Ragin’ Cajuns started the third quarter off the same way they did in the second. They increased their lead to nine after a 10-4 run in the beginning to the second half. The Ragin’ Cajuns then went on a 14-1 run in the third quarter to blow the game open. They outscored the Cowgirls 29-9 in the third to take a 23-point lead into the final quarter.

UL’s offense slowed down in the fourth, only scoring 13 points after scoring 29 in the previous quarter. It was enough to seal their second win of the season with a 75-55 win over McNeese. The Ragin’ Cajuns are now 2-1 on the year.

Big Number: 17

The UL women’s team had 17 assists on 27 made field goals. The ball movement proved to be key during their runs in the second and third quarters.

Player of the Game: Ty Doucet

The Ragin’ Cajuns forward had 14 points on a near perfect shooting percentage from the field, shooting 7-of-8. Doucet also added a team-high tying seven rebounds to go along with three assists.

Next Up: Sunday vs Southeastern Louisiana; Tipoff at 4 p.m.
