After Thursday’s disappointing loss to UL Monroe, the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns snapped their three-game losing streak on Saturday afternoon with an 88-72 victory thanks to a big performance from Mylik Wilson.
How It Happened:
The Warhawks took control of the contest early on, but the Cajuns pulled away with a 15-3 run that was capped by a three-point play from Wilson, giving the Cajuns an 11-point lead with 10:18 left in the first half. Elijah Gonzalez got ULM within six points late in the first half with a three-pointer, but Jacobi Gordon responded with a three-pointer followed by two free throws to make it a double-digit lead.
Louisiana headed into the locker room at halftime with a 45-36 lead after a pair of late jumpers from ULM’s Russell Harrison.
The Cajuns came out the gates strong, putting together a 16-7 run that was jumpstarted by a Ty Harper three-pointer to take a 64-45 lead with 13:04 left in regulation.
The Warhawks continued to fight back throughout the second half, but Louisiana’s offense bolstered by big nights by Harper and Wilson proved to be too much to overcome.
Big Number: 64%
The Cajuns shooting from three-point range was on point throughout Saturday’s contest, going 64% from the arc. Combine that with a stellar 14-of-16 from the charity stripe, the Cajuns looked unbeatable on Saturday afternoon.
Player of the Game: Mylik Wilson
Wilson has seen his fair share of ups and downs this season and Saturday was one of his better nights all-around, racking up 20 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. The sophomore out of Rayville showed what he’s made of in Monroe.
