Ragin’ Cajuns matchup against Central Arkansas canceled due to COVID-19 within program

Posted by Louis Prejean on November 18, 2020 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns

The University of Louisiana football team will not play their home finale this weekend.

The game between No. 24-ranked Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns and Central Arkansas on Saturday has been canceled due to COVID-19 positive tests and contact tracing within the program.

According to ragincajuns.com, 33 student-athletes are in the program’s COVID-19 safety protocols.

The following is a statement from Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard:

“We are disappointed we will be unable to play Central Arkansas Saturday. We knew this season was going to require a lot of patience and flexibility and disruptions were likely to occur. The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff is always the primary focus.”

The Ragin’ Cajuns did not hold practice on Tuesday. They will try to continue normal operations Saturday, Nov. 21.

Louisiana head football coach Billy Napier also released a statement:

“We appreciate our tremendous medical staff and athletic trainers working closely with our football program in order to best navigate this situation. There has been an unfortunate uptick in coronavirus cases around the country, especially in football programs, and now more then ever, we must remain committed to being safe, following proper protocols and mitigating further spread of the virus.”

The next game for the Ragin’ Cajuns is scheduled for Nov. 28 against ULM.
