NEW ORLEANS — Drew Brees has locked up his post-playing career.

The longtime franchise quarterback for the New Orleans Saints will become part of NBC’s broadcast team for NFL games. According to a New York Post report, Brees will begin his broadcast career as a analyst for the network’s Notre Dame football broadcasts on Saturdays and also serve as a studio analyst on Sunday’s “Football Night in America” pregame show. The report also indicated that Brees will be eventually be groomed as a replacement for Chris Collinsworth on the network’s widely popular “Sunday Night Football” broadcast.

NBC Sports spokesman Greg Hughes told the New York Post, “Like all NFL fans, we look forward to watching Drew continue his Hall of Fame career this fall, and we are confident his post-playing career will be just as successful.”

The 41-year-old Brees held off retirement this offseason as he signed a two-year, $50 million contract last month. The 2020 season will be his 15th with the Saints and his 20th overall. Brees began his career with the San Diego Chargers after being drafted in the second round.

Brees enters the 2020 season as the NFL’s all-time leader in several different categories, including passing yards (77,416) and passing touchdowns (547).
