Former Ragin’ Cajuns forward Jalen Johnson has committed to the Mississippi State Bulldogs, according to basketball analyst Jeff Goodman.

Louisiana grad transfer Jalen Johnson told me he has committed to Mississippi State. 6-foot-7 forward averaged 15.5 points and 6.6 boards per game this past season.

Johnson led the University of Louisiana men’s basketball team in scoring and rebounds in the 2019-20 season. It was reported on April 22 that Johnson was entering the transfer portal.

Ragin’ Cajuns head men’s basketball coach Bob Marlin released the following statement about Johnson entering the transfer portal:

“We appreciate Jalen’s contributions to our basketball team, both on and off the court, during the 2019-20 season,” Marlin said. “He spoke with me in the past couple of weeks about early entry into the NBA Draft and he has completed his paperwork. Jalen is on course to graduate this spring and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

Now Johnson has committed to a Bulldogs team that finished with an 20-11 overall record last year and 11-7 in the Southeastern Conference.

Two Mississippi State frontcourt players from last season, Reggie Perry and Robert Woodard, recently announced they will enter this year’s NBA Draft. Perry has signed an agent, while Woodard has until June 6 to announce if he will withdraw from the upcoming draft.

Johnson was named Sun Belt Conference Newcomer of the Year for his lone season with UL. He will have one year left for Mississippi State.
