McNeese guard DJ Richards has been named the Southland Conference Player of the Week after two wins over Southern Miss and Louisiana.
For the week, McNeese went 2-0 while Richards averaged 20.5 points per game, connecting on 63.2% from the field and 60% from downtown.
The sophomore from Houston had a career-high 24 points when Will Wade made his return to the sidelines last Wednesday in a 67-48 win over Southern Miss. He shot 8-14 and 6-11 from 3-point range. He followed that with 17 points against Louisiana where he made 4 of 5 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc with all of his made threes coming in the second half, including with 47 seconds left that gave the Cowboys a 73-72 lead.
Richards sits third on the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game while ranking in the top five for the conference with 27 total threes made.
McNeese is 10-2 so far (best start since 1972-1973) and will next travel to Ann Arbor, Michigan to battle the Wolverines on December 29.
