The Saints matchup against the Seahawks looked like a modern re-telling of the Tortoise and the Hare. A slow-and-steady attack led to the Saints winning the race with a 25-20 win in the Superdome.
The Seahawks defense got things started with a fumble from Mark Ingram that would be recovered and turned into a touchdown by Earl Thomas take an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
The Saints weren’t about to go away as they marched down the field on a 15 play drive and got three points on the board with a 22-yarder from Will Lutz. The Seahawks would respond with some trickery with a lateral from Wilson to McEvoy who would connect on a deep ball to Prosise. The next play would see Christine Michael waltz into the endzone from two yards out to take a 14-3 lead.
Lutz would find success yet again after another double digit play drive and send a 53-yarder through the uprights to cut the lead down to 7 points. Seattle would give the Saints new life with an interception from Nate Stupar would shift the momentum towards the Saints late in the first half and ended with Drew Brees putting his body on the line with a dive over the line to get six points for his team and it would be 14-13 at the half.
The Seahawks would put more of a buffer between themselves and the Saints early in the third quarter with a 44-yarder from Hauschka. However, the Saints would respond on their next drive with the third successful field goal from Lutz to once again make it a one point matchup.
After forcing a Seahawks punt, the Saints would put together another key drive that ended with Brandin Cooks scoring on a short pass from Brees to take the lead. The Saints would try to make it a seven point lead with a two point conversion, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Seattle would have the ball back with plenty of time to get a touchdown and the lead back, but the Saints defense would hold them to three points to keep the Saints alive in the matchup. Lutz would put the final nail in the coffin with a 41-yarder to take their first win over the Seahawks since 2010.
The Saints (3-4) will now hit the road for a west coast matchup against the San Francisco 49ers (1-6) with kickoff set for 3:05 pm.
