The New Orleans Saints have started spring cleaning in the month of January, firing five coaches on Thursday according to Alex Marvez.
Of note the Saints have fired long-time assistant head coach Joe Vitt. He had been part of the franchise since Sean Payton’s arrival to the crescent city. He also served as the interim head coach while Payton served his suspension due to the Bountygate scandal.
Another longtime member of the Saints coaching staff was special teams coordinator Greg McMahon. He was an assistant special teams coach from 2006-2007 and moved into his role in the 2008 season. He also played with the Saints head coach in the early 1980s at Eastern Illinois.
The remaining coaches that have been fired are Bill Johnson, Stan Kwan, and James Willis.
