The New Orleans Saints have hired Brandon Staley as their new defensive coordinator, according to multiple reports. Staley will lead the defense for new head coach Kellen Moore in both of their first seasons with the franchise.
Staley was most recently the assistant head coach for the San Francisco 49ers. Prior to that, he was the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers for three seasons, from 2021-2023.
Moore worked with Staley as the offensive coordinator for the Chargers in 2023. They now flip roles, with Moore being in charge and Staley being a coordinator in New Orleans.
Staley went 24-24 as a head coach during his three seasons. In addition to being a head coach, he was the defensive coordinator for the Rams in 2020 and had multiple years as a linebackers coach before that.
Prior to his time in the NFL, Staley had stints as a defensive coordinator at the college level, for both James Madison and John Carroll.
