After Monday night’s thrilling 30-28 victory over the Houston Texans, it should come as no surprise that Saints kicker Wil Lutz was named on Wednesday as the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Lutz hit the 58-yard game-winner to give the Saints their first win in a season opener since 2013. It was the longest game-winning field goal with no time left in the fourth quarter or in overtime in an NFL season opener.
The former Georgia State Panther nailed two of the other three field goals that he tried and he made all three extra points over the course of the contest.
It’s the third time that Lutz has been honored with a weekly award in his four seasons with the Saints.
The New Orleans Saints (1-0) will head over to Los Angeles to begin a two-game trip to the West Coast when they take on the Los Angeles Rams (1-0) with kickoff set for 3:25 p.m.
