The New Orleans Saints will start Spencer Rattler at quarterback in week one against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Kellen Moore announced on Tuesday.
Rattler battled with rookie Tyler Shough and third-year player Jake Haener throughout camp and the preseason. Haener seemingly fell out of the race in the late stages and was ultimately waived after the final preseason game.
Rattler and Shough were seemingly close throughout the process, and their final stats show that theme as well. Rattler threw for 295 yards with one touchdown and one interception, while Shough threw for 333 yards, also with one touchdown and one interception.
While Rattler was a fifth-round selection back in 2024 under then-coach Dennis Allen, Shough was selected in the second round of the 2025 draft by Kellen Moore and his staff. Despite being drafted a year later, Shough is actually one year older than Rattler.
The Saints begin the season next Sunday on September 7th inside the Caesars Superdome. They play host to the Cardinals with a noon kickoff.
