Saints Rally in Second Half to Win Fourth Straight

It wasn’t a pretty start for the New Orleans Saints (4-2) inside Lambeau Field with two early interceptions for Drew Brees, but the defense was able to hold down the Green Bay Packers (4-3) in the second half to get their fourth straight win by the score of 26-17.

Aaron Jones got the Packers on the board early in the first quarter with a big 46-yard run into the endzone. The Saints wound up responding early in the second quarter with Mark Ingram taking it to the house from 12 yards out to tie things up.

One of the big storylines headed into the game was how Mike McCarthy was going to set up Green Bay’s offense with Brett Hundley taking snaps. The former UCLA QB wound up using his legs halfway through quarter with a 14-yard run into the endzone, making it 14-7. The score remained the same as both teams headed into the locker room.

The Saints got within one point early in the second half with Brees connecting with Brandon Coleman. However, the score stayed at 14-13 after Wil Lutz’ extra point was blocked. Lutz did redeem himself late in the third quarter with a 28-yard field goal to take the three point lead.

However, Mason Crosby got the Packers back out in front with a 46-yarder very early in the fourth quarter.

After Lutz got his second field goal of the afternoon gave the Saints a 19-17 lead, the Saints marched down the field on an eight play drive that was capped off by a classic Brees jump over the pile on 3rd and goal at the half yard line wound up being the deciding factor.

The Saints will return to the Mercedes Benz Superdome to host the Chicago Bears (3-4) with kickoff set for 12 pm.
