The Saints under the bright lights of the Superdome in a primetime matchup against a division foe put on one of their best performances in a long time and came away with a 31-21 victory.
Mark Ingram got the Saints on the board first after a lengthy opening drive with a 2-yard run into the endzone.
The Saints had moment reminiscent of the 2006 matchup against the Falcons in the Superdome when Michael Mauti, a native of Mandeville, blocked a punt by Bosher and walked into the endzone to give the Saints an early 14-0 lead.
The Falcons finally got on the board early in the second quarter with a short pass from Matt Ryan to veteran wideout Roddy White.
The Saints put it into another gear in the second half, getting a 31-yard field goal by Zack Hocker to pad their lead.
They followed it up with Brees connecting with his favorite target on the night, Ben Watson, on a short pass into the endzone on 4th down for the score.
The Falcons kept themselves in it with a long drive that was capped off by Devonta Freeman rushing 25 yards for the score. But the Saints put the dagger in the Falcons hopes of a rally with another lengthy drive that was capped off by Mark Ingram walking into the endzone from one yard out.
The Saints (2-4) have some time off before going back on the road to take on the Indianapolis Colts (3-2) on October 25th with kickoff scheduled for 12:00 pm.
