The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team won two of three on the road against perennial Regional competitor Dallas Baptist over the weekend. Louisiana took game one (6-5) and game two (11-6) while falling in game three (12-1).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Friday night was a back and forth battle as Louisiana and Dallas Baptist both took advantage of the wind blowing out and used the long ball. Down the stretch, with the game tied 5-5, Rigoberto Hernandez played the hero as he launched a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give Louisiana a 6-5 lead. The Cajuns held on for the victory.
In game two, Dallas Baptist erased a 4-0 deficit to take a 5-4 lead before a lightning delay halted action. After the delay, the Patriots’ pitching staff stuffed to find the zone, allowing Louisiana to score seven runs on just two hits the rest of the way. The Cajuns held on for an 11-6 victory, clinching the series.
In Sunday’s finale, the Patriots bats got the best of Louisiana. Sawyer Pruitt got the start, giving up four runs in four and two-thirds innings. The real damage, however, was done off the Cajuns’ bullpen. DBU put together six runs in the bottom of the sixth, the big blow being a grand slam from Dylan Cupp. The Patriots salvaged a game with a 12-1 win that was cut short to seven innings due to the mercy rule.
UP NEXT: Louisiana (12-4) will have two midweek games this week before conference play begins on Friday. They welcome UT Rio Grande Valley (Tuesday at 6:00 PM) and McNeese (Wednesday at 3:00 PM) before South Alabama comes to town for a weekend Sun Belt Conference series.
