The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team had four players named to the All-SBC Second Team, the league announced on Tuesday. Emily Smith, Sam Roe, Maddie Hayden, and Kayla Falterman all made the list, while Smith also earned SBC Freshman of the Year.
Smith is a freshman from Kountze, Texas who battled injuries early in the season but became a force in SBC play. She led Louisiana with 12 home runs and 43 RBIs, while posting a .360 batting average. SHe becomes the 10th Cajun to win Freshman of the Year in the conference.
Roe, a senior and Florida transfer, stepped up in her second season with the program. She made just one error defensively at third base, being a reliable option in the Cajuns’ defense. At the plate, she was second on the team with four home runs, and drove in 28.
Hayden, a senior from West Monroe, is wrapping up one of the more decorated careers in Cajuns’ softball history. In her final campaign, she hit .374 and started all 52 games. That marks a new career high for the outfielder.
Falterman, a senior from The Woodlands, Texas, enjoyed the best offensive season of her career. She led the team with a .393 average, and added four doubles. Additionally, she played perfect defense in the outfield, not making an error.
The Cajuns will begin the Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday at 10:00 AM in Troy as the #3 seed when they face #6 seed App State.
