Tigers Beat Cajuns 8-5 in Wally Pontiff Classic

The Cajuns gave the LSU Tigers their all on Tuesday night at Zephyr Field, but the Tigers were able to come away with an 8-5 win over the Cajuns in the Wally Pontiff Jr. Classic.

Stefan Trosclair got things going early on in the top of the first, scoring off of a wild pitch to give the Cajuns the early 1-0 edge.

But the Tigers were able to get the lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of RBI doubles by Kramer Robertson and Jake Fraley.

The Tigers put more of a gap between themselves and the Cajuns in the bottom of the fourth when Cole Freeman hit a two-run single. But the Cajuns responded in the top of the fifth with a three-run blast by LSU-E transfer Steven Sensley to tie things up at 5-all.

But the Tigers put it away in the bottom of the fifth with three runs capped off by Greg Deichmann hitting an RBI single.

Alden Cartwright improved to 3-0 on the season throwing one and third shutout innings, allowing no hits and striking out three batters. Jesse Stallings got his first save of the year in two-thirds of an inning of work.

Evan Guillory dropped to 1-3 on the year allowing seven runs off of eight hits and struck out two in four innings of work.

The Cajuns drop to 12-9 on the year and will head back to the Tigue to take on Georgia State in a three game series starting on Thursday with first pitch set for 6 pm.

The Tigers improve to 15-5 on the year and will head to College Station for a three-game series against Texas A&M starting on Thursday with first pitch set for 6 pm.
