
The LSU Tigers beat Virginia Tech for a second time in two days to win the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Park. With the 7-2 victory, No. 16 LSU went a perfect 3-0 in regional play and punched its ticket to the NCAA Super Regionals.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Virginia Tech got on the scoreboard first with an RBI single by Jordan Lynch in the first inning and then an RBI single by Addison Foster in the second. As the game headed to the third inning, the Hokies held a 2-0 lead.
LSU would seize the lead in the top of the third inning.
Jalia Lassiter led off with a solo home run over the left field wall. Kylee Edwards hit an infield single, Alix Franklin drew a walk to put two runners on, and Tori Edwards grounded out for the second out. Maci Bergeron laced a single through the left side that brought home two runs.
Char Lorenz singled to centerfield, and then Ally Hutchins doubled down the right field line to bring home Bergeron.
Beth Torina’s squad then added to its lead by plating two more runs in the fifth. A single by Lassiter scored Lorenz, and then a fielder’s choice by Sierra Daniel scored Destiny Harris.
LSU would add another run in the top of the seventh as the Tigers were able to score on an error.
BIG NUMBER: 11
With Sunday’s victory, LSU advanced to its 11th NCAA Super Regional. The Tigers have played in Super Regionals 2006, 2007, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024, and now 2026.
PLAYERS OF THE GAME: ALIX FRANKLIN & PAYTN MONTICELLI
Franklin led LSU at the plate as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two doubles. After giving two early runs, Monticelli settled down and silenced the Hokies bats as she gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits with two strikeouts in seven innings.
UP NEXT: LSU (40-17) will take on Alabama (52-7) in the NCAA Super Regional held in Tuscaloosa next weekend.
