
The LSU Tigers baseball team fell the Mississippi State Bulldogs 10-8 on Friday evening in Starkville, Mississippi. The Bulldogs came through with a walk off home run in the eleventh inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
LSU started off hot at the plate in this one. Off of Bulldogs’ ace Tomas Valincius, the Tigers got three runs. Omar Serena Jr, Steven Milam, and Mason Braun all collected RBIs as LSU took the 3-0 lead.
After Casan Evans was scratched at the last minute, Gavin Guidry got the emergency start on the mound for LSU. He would give up a couple in the first, as Blake Bevis launched a two-run shot to make it 3-2.
After trading zeroes in the second, each team got a solid home run in the third. Serna Jr collected LSU’s while Ace Reese hit the one for Mississippi State. That would also end Guidry’s outing with the score 4-3.
The Tigers would chase Valincius in the fourth. They put up three more runs. The big blow coming on a two-run single by Milam. Two Bulldog errors also contributed to the inning, and LSU held a 7-3 lead by the end of it.
Mississippi State would add single tallies in the fourth and fifth shrinking the lead to 7-5. LSU had to use a variety of different arms after the unexpected pitching shuffle.
The Bulldogs would grab two runs in the sixth, tying the game 7-7. The score would stay that way until the ninth.
In the ninth, William Patrick came through for the Tigers. He delivered an RBI single to give LSU an 8-7 lead. However, Mississippi State answered that with an RBI single to tie the game again in the bottom of the ninth.
In the bottom of the 11th, the Bulldogs would finally prevail. Kevin Milewski came through with a walk-off home run to win it 10-8 for the Bulldogs.
BIG NUMBER: 4
Mississippi State gave up four unearned runs by their starter. LSU took advantage, chasing the Bulldog ace early in the game.
PLAYER OF THE GAME: Kevin Milewski
Milewski came through with the biggest hit of the night, a walk-off two run shot in the bottom of the eleventh inning.
