The #8 LSU Tigers (5-1, 2-0 SEC) will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas to face the Arkansas Razorbacks (4-2, 2-1 SEC) in an SEC contest on Saturday night.
The Tigers are coming off of an emotional victory over Ole Miss last week, winning on the final play of the game in overtime. The Razorbacks had a bye last week, but are also coming off of a big win. They upset #4 Tennessee the last time they took the field.
Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM inside Razorback Stadium and can be heard on ESPN 103.7 Lafayette 104.1 Lake Charles with pregame beginning at 4:00.
BATTLE FOR THE BOOT
Saturday will be the renewal of an SEC rivalry known as the “Battle for the Boot.”
Things have traditionally been close when LSU and Arkansas get together, even in years where it seems one team outmatches the other. In fact, each of the past four meetings have been decided by exactly three points.
Still, the Tigers hold a big advantage in the overall history, winning 49 of 69 meetings.
OFF OF AN EMOTIONAL WIN
The Ole Miss win was massive for LSU, and they needed it to improve their resume this season. It happened in dramatic fashion, winning on the final play of the game.
Arkansas is also coming off of a big one, holding on to defeat Tennessee two weeks ago. The only difference is the Razorbacks had a bye in between that game and this one.
The team that handles coming back down to Earth after a big win will likely have an advantage in this contest.
HANDLING ANOTHER DEFENSIVE FRONT
Arkansas features one of the better defensive fronts in the SEC. It is always a task to deal with their pass rushers.
However, the LSU offensive line has already had to face two talented fronts in SEC play when facing South Carolina and Ole Miss. Their ability to protect Garrett Nussmeier will play a big role in this game.
If the Arkansas front can not get to the quarterback, look for the LSU offense to create some explosive plays down the field in this game.
