The New Orleans Saints second day of the NFL Draft was certainly uneventful when compared to the first day. It seemed like perhaps the Saints were going to trade into the second round, but they made the decision to wait with zen-like patience for the 91st pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to pick up UCF wideout Tre’Quan Smith

Breakdown
The UCF product really came into his own his junior year, racking up 59 receptions for 1,171 yards and 13 TDs. The only real knock on him is that he is still relatively new to the sport as he only started playing it when he was a junior in high school.
However, he fits the mold of the type of WR that Sean Payton and crew want in a wideout: big and fast. Smith can be a big deep threat with 16 receptions being off of deep passes.
Coach Speak
New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis: “He’s got good size, decent speed. What we like about him is that he’s really a smart player. He’s gonna fit in with our group.”
Tre’Quon Smith: “I can’t wait to catch touchdowns from Drew Brees. I just want to be around a great group of guys that will be a hard worker.”
Overall Grade: B
The Saints wide receiver corps is stacked right now and Smith is another big wideout like Michael Thomas and can fit well with him. However, there’s a lot of other wideouts looking to take some of those cookies including free agency acquisition Cam Meredith.
