Welcome everyone to another edition of #TriplePlay!
Turn One: Pitching Holding the Tigers Back
The LSU Tigers are having consistency hitting the ball, especially this past weekend against Ole Miss when they had 11 hits in all three games. However, the biggest issue is the Tigers pitching staff. Outside of Alex Lange’s complete game gem, the Tigers pitching staff is performing well under expectations. As many hits as LSU got, Ole Miss got almost as much if not more in the two victories they had in the series. I might sound like a broken record, but LSU needs to figure out what needs to be done in order to right the ship as the season is getting closer and closer to being done.
Turn Two: Leaving Runs On the Basepaths
The Tigers may have been getting a lot of hitting, but weren’t able to turn it into runs to take two of three on the weekend. In the series against Ole Miss, LSU was a disparaging 6-of-41 with runners in scoring position. If there’s one way to lose games, it’s that way. But in what is another reason to love baseball, even with this stat, the Tigers still had a shot to win two out of three. Look at game one where they only lost by one run. They were back and forth with Ole Miss all game long, until the Rebels had a three run sixth inning. That could amount to straight up bad luck.
Turn Three: Looking Ahead
LSU isn’t playing any midweek matchups this week due to finals week, and will face off with an interesting team in Arkansas. The Razorbacks are currently 7-14 in conference play, but can’t be overlooked at this point of the season. But if there’s a team that the Tigers can bounce back against, it’s Arkansas. They just have to figure out what is going on with the pitching staff and if there’s any way to fix the bad voodoo.
