The athletic calendar year has wrapped up, but that doesn’t mean the end of the year awards are done. On Wednesday, a pair of Louisiana Ragin Cajuns were nominated for the 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
Seniors Haley Hayden and Yazmin Montoya are among the distinguished group of 543 female-student athletes from across the country in all NCAA divisions. These two are the representatives of the Sun Belt Conference.
Hayden, who graduated in May, produced at least 40 runs, hits, and RBIs in all four of her years with the softball program. This season she became the all-time runs scored leader with her record breaking 244th run coming on April 30th.
Montoya, who was named the UL Female Student-Athlete of the Year, was a magna cum laude graduate in exercise science the Fall 2016 semester. A four time letterwinner for Cajuns soccer finished her career as the all-time leader in goals (26), assists (15), points (67), shots (227) and shot on-goal (98).
The 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced at the annual award ceremony on October 22nd in Indianapolis.
