The UL Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team had five players tabbed to the 2015 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams, the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) announced on Wednesday.
The five selections are the most by any team in the region, which includes schools from the Conference USA, American, Sun Belt, Southland and SWAC.
The Cajuns saw junior infielders Stefan Trosclair and Blake Trahan along with freshman left-hander Gunner Leger earn ABCA South Central All-Region first-0team honors. Junior outfielder Kyle Clement and freshman right-hander Dylan Moore rounded out the selections for the Ragin’ Cajuns on the South Central All-Region second team.
The teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. I All-America Committee. All-Region first-team selections are eligible for ABCA/Rawlings All-America honors.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Americans will be announced on Saturday and the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove team will be announced on Sunday.
Trahan, the Sun Belt Player of the Year, was recently picked 84th overall by the Cincinnati Reds in the third round. A Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American, Trahan finished the season hitting .315 with a team-best 80 hits including 15 doubles, two home runs and 29 RBI.s
Trosclair, a Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American, finished second on the squad in hitting and had a team-high 16 home runs and 53 RBIs for Louisiana, while Leger had a 6-5 record and a 2.99 ERA in 19 appearances including 18 starts. The Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Leger held opponents to a .240 average in 114.1 innings with 87 strikeouts and just 20 walks.
On the second team, Clement posted a team-best .346 average with 17 doubles, four triples and eight home runs. Clement became the first Cajuns player to hit for the cycle since 1990 while driving in 32 runs on the season.
Moore, a two-time Freshman All-America selection, set the school record for saves in a season with 13 and is just three back of the career record. A second team All-Sun Belt honoree, Moore notched a 1.60 ERA in a team-high 32 appearances while striking out 40 in 50.2 innings.
