UL Football Picks Up Two More Pledges for 2020 Class

Posted by Raymond Partsch III on July 29, 2019 in Blogs, Featured, Latest News, Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, RP3's Blogs

The University of Louisiana football team picked up two more verbal commitments for the 2020 recruiting class — and the Ragin’ Cajuns secured both of those pledges from stars in the state of Texas.

This past weekend both three-star cornerback Dabari Hawkins and two-star tight end Christian Sabatini pledged to the Ragin’ Cajuns. That gives UL head coach Billy Napier and his staff now 14 commits for the 2020 class, which according to 247Sports ranks 72nd in the country, and second in the Sun Belt Conference.

Hawkins is a 6-foot-2, 185-pound cornerback from Stafford, Texas who earned first-team all-district honors last season for Stafford High. Hawkins also took part in the Texas 7-on-7 state championships this past June.

Hawkins made the announcement via Twitter with a post that stated, “First off I’d like to thank my family, without them this whole process wouldn’t have been made possible. Also I’d wanted to thank my coaches and everyone else who has helped me reach this point with developing my game & character as young man. With that being said, I’d like to announce my recruitment has ended and I’ll be committing to the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. #GeauxCajuns #cULture.”

Hawkins also had scholarship offers from Vanderbilt, Tulane, Tulsa, Air Force, New Mexico State and Texas Southern.

Sabatini is a 6-foot-2, 239-pound tight end out of Plano, Texas and he also made his announcement via Twitter.

In a post Sabatini wrote, “These last few months have been a whirlwind. Going from 0 offers to 6 offers and many more interests. For that I have to thank God for watching over me and giving me all that I have up to now. I would like to thank my family, more specifically my mom, dad, grandfather, and brother, for supporting me, pushing me, and shaping me into the man I am today.”

Sabatini would go on to write, “I’d like to announce that I will be committing to THE University of Louisiana! Thank you to Coach Napier, Coach Desormeaux, Coach Swayer, Coach Sale, Coach Toney and the ENTIRE staff for embracing me with open arms. #AGTG #GeauxCajuns #cULture #444.”

Sabatini also had scholarship offers from UL Monroe, Southern Miss and Army.

For the 2020 class, 11 of the 14 verbal commitment are ranked as three-star prospects from 247Sports.

Six of the commitments hail from the state of Louisiana and that includes wide receiver Dontae Fleming (East St. John), offensive guard Cory Marshall (Northwood), wide receiver Kyren Lacy (Thibodaux), defensive tackle Sonny Hazard (Jesuit), athlete Tyree Skipper (Sophie B. Wright) and local product — wide receiver Errol Rogers (Lafayette Christian Academy).
