#3OT: Louisiana vs Texas State

Posted by clintdomingue on January 21, 2017 in Latest News

3ot-cajuns

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of #3OT where I break down what went right and what went wrong for the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns! Today, I look at the Cajuns win over Texas State.

1st OT: Finding that Stroke Again

As the Cajuns were getting things going in conference play, one thing became clear and that was their shooting ability was less than stellar against Sun Belt opponents. Outside of the Arkansas Little Rock game, their shooting left a lot to be desired. Look back at the Cajuns recent home stand; they shot below 45 percent from the field in all three outings. If you shoot like that, more likely than not you will lose games. Saturday’s win over Texas State seemed like a step in the right direction for this team as they were able to get things going and shoot consistently from beyond again. They will need to carry the momentum from this game into a big one against one of the better teams in the conference on Monday.

2nd OT: Making Most of Opportunities

While the Cajuns weren’t able to get the amount of turnovers they are used to getting, they made the most of their opportunities created by the defense. The Bobcats from San Marcos only committed eight turnovers and the Cajuns made them pay by scoring 12 points off of them. The Cajuns did turn the ball over a lot, but their defensive efforts were able to keep themselves ahead for most of the game.

3rd OT: Finishing Strong

The last minute of the game was fairly unexpected as the Cajuns looked to be on the way to a double-digit win. However the Bobcats were able to get it back down to as little as six points as time expired. If not for the Cajuns getting Texas State to foul, it might have been a little more hairy. The Cajuns efficiency from the charity stripe was great and a big reason why they were able to win this game and hold on to their lead in the final minute. It was a very good thing to see from a team that has from time to time been unable to finish games.
