It should come as no surprise that a member of the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns Softball team received an accolade from the Sun Belt to start the regular season.
Junior outfielder Kelli Martinez was named the Sun Belt Softball Player of the Week on Tuesday morning. Martinez led all players in the 31st Louisiana Classics going 9-for-19 at the plate and four RBIs on the weekend.
She also is starting the season off with a six-game hit streak before the Cajuns take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in a three game series starting on Friday.
When it comes to the Sun Belt pitcher of the week, that honor goes to South Alabama’s Devin Brown. The junior ended here weekend with two complete game shutouts and a save in 15.2 innings of work.
